Our closed-cell PE backer rod is an extruded backing material that is excellent for use indoors and outdoors. It is water-repellent and very firm, making it ideal for building construction joints to DIN 18540.

Application notes

The optimal ratio of joint width to joint depth is an important prerequisite for the longest possible service life of an elastic joint. Component joints are often too deep for proper joint dimensioning. The joint depth should therefore be limited with the closed-cell OTTOCORD PE-B2 backer rod, which at the same time prevents three-sided adhesion so as not to restrict the flexibility of the sealant in the joint.

The closed-cell backer rod is compression-resistant and non-absorbent, making it suitable for all indoor and outdoor areas. Press OTTOCORD PE-B2 into the joint with a blunt tool. Avoid sharp objects so as not to damage the closed-cell surface, as this could otherwise cause bubbles to form in the sealant. The diameter of the backer rod should be about 20% larger than the joint width so that it can be pressed into the joint and then remains in an oval shape within it.
