Sika® Primer 215
Sika® Primer-215 – System primer for Sikaflex Tank N This primer is part of the approved joint sealing system with Sikaflex Tank N. Product description Sika® Primer-215 is a colourless to slightly yellowish solvent-based primer that reacts with moisture to form a film-building layer. This layer acts as a link between substrate and adhesive and was developed specifically for pre-treating bonding surfaces in combination with Sikaflex® adhesives. Areas of application Sika® Primer-215 is used to improve adhesion on many plastics such as GRP, epoxy resins, PVC, ABS and on wood. Due to the wide variety of plastic formulations, preliminary tests with original materials under the relevant production conditions should be carried out. Manufacturer recommendations should be observed before using Sika® Primer-215 on materials prone to stress cracking. Product properties Chemical basis: Solvent-based polyurethane primer Colour: Colourless, slightly yellowish Solids content: 34% Application temperature: 5 to 40 °C Application notes: Brush, felt or foam applicator Consumption: Depends on surface porosity, approx. 50 g/m² Flash-off time: ≥ 15 °C: 30 minutes < 15 °C: 60 minutes At most 24 hours Technical information Important note: Sika® Primer-215 reacts with moisture. To maintain product quality, it is important to reseal the can with the inner plastic lid immediately after each use. After first opening, the primer should be disposed of after about one month with regular use, or after two months if the can is opened rarely. The 30 ml can is for single use only. Primer that has gelled, separated or shows increased viscosity should no longer be used. Do not dilute or mix Sika® Primer-215 with other substances. When used on transparent or translucent substrates such as glass, plastics etc., adequate UV protection for the bonding surface is mandatory. Application notes The bonding surfaces must be clean, dry and free of grease, oil, dust and contamination. Adhesion can be improved before applying the primer with further pre-treatment steps such as sanding, cleaning and activating. Application Application can be carried out with a brush, felt or foam applicator. Apply Sika® Primer-215 evenly and thinly but with full coverage. The optimal application and surface temperature is between 15 °C and 25 °C. Apply the primer only once, ensuring that the single application provides sufficient coverage. Consumption and method of application depend on the nature of the substrates. Close containers tightly immediately after each use. Sika® Primer-215 – for optimal adhesion on plastics and wood, safe and reliable in use.
